After placement, expect mild to moderate discomfort for 2-3 days, easily managed with over-the-counter painkillers like ibuprofen. Swelling peaks around 48-72 hours and can be reduced with ice packs. Stick to a soft diet for the first week and avoid hard, crunchy, or spicy foods. Keep the area clean with gentle rinsing. In the long term, care for your implant like a natural tooth with regular brushing and flossing. Seek immediate help if pain increases after day 4, you notice pus, or you have a fever. Call during office hours (Mon/Wed/Fri 9-5, Tue/Thu 11-7). For emergencies outside hours, go to A&E or call 111.

Implants have a high long term success rate over 95% at 10 years. Other options exist. A fixed bridge is faster and often cheaper initially but requires trimming healthy teeth on both sides. A removable partial denture is cheapest but less stable, may affect speech, and must be removed for cleaning.
