We have been under Tier restrictions for months due to the enormous risk that the COVID-19 virus carries. As dental professionals we always want to keep our patient's safe and with this in mind we have made our dental clinic fully COVID-19 safe. We have introduced all the measures and guidance that the current cross infection requires in order to practice safely. If you have a dental emergency you should first call us regarding your dental issue and if appropriate we can make you an emergency dental appointment at The Finchley Dentist.

The Finchley Dentist is equipped with the appropriate PPE (personal protective equipment) in order to deal with emergency dental procedures. We are continuing to carry out routine dental care but these rule may change if the situation gets worse and government instructs dentists to limit treatments to emergency care only.

So at The Finchley Dentist we are your phone call and email messages in order to triage patients and advise them how they should proceed in order help their dental emergencies.

Here is some useful information:

If you're having pain then we suggest taking some painkillers first. Anti-inflammatory medications like ibuprofen can help reduce tooth pain. You may also look at combining this with paracetamol if the pain is severe. Please note that if you have allergies or your doctor has contraindicated using either of these medications then do not do so. Currently there is no strong evidence contraindicating ibuprofen for people with suspected COVID-19 symptoms. Please make sure not to exceed the maximum daily dose for all of the medications you are taking.

If the pain or swelling cannot be stopped with these painkillers then please contact The Finchley Dentist for emergency dental advise.

If a tooth feels sensitive to hot or cold and the sensitivity only lasts for a second or two then try using a sensitive toothpaste like Sensodyne. You can also use the sensitive toothpaste by rubbing it into the sensitive part of the tooth in order to combat the sensitivity.

Pain associated with wisdom teeth or something you may experience periodically. You know best how to manage these situations if it has happened before. We would advise that you gently brush the area and use Corsodyl mouthwash in between brushing. if you don't have Corsodyl mouthwash then try using warm salty mouthwash which can simply be made by using warm water and adding salt accordingly. If the symptoms get worse and your face becomes swollen then contact us immediately.

Ulcers can be painful normally they heal within 7 to 10 days. If the suspected ulcer continues for for longer than this period of time I'm then you must contact us. Sometimes by using a medicated mouthwash like Difflam can help ease the painful symptoms. Also we would recommend a soft diet and potentially using painkillers if the pain is moderate.

Bleeding gums is not necessarily a dental emergency however this can be related to to come issues that may have been pointed out by your dentist. If this is the case they make sure you are cleaning your teeth adequately lee.and using floss or interdental brushes. Again if you are worried please contact The Finchley Dentist.

A lost crown is not a dental emergency however is a little bit of advice. Get some temporary cement from the chemist and follow no the manufacturers instructions. We would advise that you clean the crown or veneer thoroughly before attempting to cement it temporarily. After it has been cemented make sure that all your teeth meet as they did do before. If this is not the case once again give us a call on 020 3488 0335.
